Today I’m talking specifically to new entrepreneurs – people who are just starting out in their businesses and building their brand. Most of them are getting stuck at communicating and telling people that they are legit – how can they prove that they have the expertise and that their brand can be trusted and that people should buy from them. Sometimes a paper certification does not work with the brand you are building or it’s unrelated. Furthermore, as we evolve and our skills grow as an entrepreneur, you are certified by your experience and not exactly certified by paper. I want to tell you 4 simple ways on how you can do this:
1. Everything starts with delivering value. – Yes, your brand is new, and you just got registered but when you are talking about your product or service, you have to start from delivering value. Your first six months to a year in business should be hard core value.
2. Research and development – find the white space of opportunity in your market. This is key. If you are an accountant, look at what other accountants are doing in their practice – how they are getting their expertise out, how they are building their platform, what services they are offering on their site, how are they doing their content marketing, etc. If you don’t know where other people in your marketplace is going, then you will be lost.
3. Make everything an experience. – You are new in the business, so you have to make everything stick in your audiences’ minds. Not only do you have to make an impression in your target audiences’ minds, you also need to make an impression on your peers’ minds.
4. Get personal. – Don’t just fill out on arbitrary goals like, “I have to get 5,000 people on my list” and you don’t know anybody on that list. You need to have a strategy of getting personal. This can be as simple as sending personalized birthday cards in the mail or collecting Twitter handles so you can tweet directly to your audience on what they are interested about. Get creative when you get personal.
With each of these strategies, keep it simple. Don’t follow a hundred different experts in your industry. Follow the top 5 that closely resonate with your business and brand. If you are new in the business, do not get discouraged. Know that this is a marathon and not a sprint, and you will succeed.
